Feeding at the public trough: Congressional families

Over at The Shad Plank, they came across this report from Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW) regarding the ability of some of our Congressional representatives to funnel money to their families. Among the 96 members of Congress -- 41 Democrats and 55 Republicans -- reviewed were some from Virginia, including Jo Ann … Continue reading Feeding at the public trough: Congressional families

VA voter registration issues

Jim Patrick has an amazing post on the Virginia's attempt to upgrade its voter registration software. The software is assigning voters to the wrong precinct and even worse: eliminating registered voters! There was a problem a couple of weeks ago in Portsmouth regarding voters being assigned to the wrong precinct. (I don't seem to be … Continue reading VA voter registration issues

New Page: 21/51

I've added a new page to this blog - 21/51 - which includes a listing of all of the Democratic candidates in the Commonwealth. Click on the tab at the top of the blog (next to guestbook) to access it. Of course, the Arlington County Democrats, who came up with that cool 21/51 logo, beat … Continue reading New Page: 21/51

The Virginian Pilot has reported the death of former Norfolk councilman and Vice Mayor Herbert Collins. Clinton: bad choice on Hastings

Hillary Clinton has named disgraced former judge Alcee Hastings to be the co-chair of her campaign in Florida. Hastings was convicted of accepting a $150,000 bribe, removed from the bench and impeached by the then Democratically controlled Congress. I'm not sure what Clinton was smoking when she chose such a person for her campaign. It … Continue reading Clinton: bad choice on Hastings

[...] Of Virginia’s political blogs (on both the left and the right), which do you consider to be the: 1. Best … Continue reading SLANTblog: Looking for best of the blogs

What’s wrong with this picture?

Click to enlarge When I first heard that Senator Nick Rerras had appropriated the blue crab of challenger Ralph Northam, I needed to see it for myself. Because I live the 6th, I get Rerras' mailings all the time. However, since this dinner was being held on the Eastern Shore, I didn't get the invitation. … Continue reading What’s wrong with this picture?

Blogs United: to go or not to go

I entered the Virginia political blogosphere in February 2006 as a neophyte to the world of political blogging. Shortly after committing to this adventure, I learned about the plans for a bloggers conference to be held at Sorensen in Charlottesville. I eagerly signed up, wanting to have the opportunity to meet other bloggers and learn … Continue reading Blogs United: to go or not to go

Support for Jefferson? Say it ain’t so!

I'm nearly speechless: Supporters of a Democratic congressman charged with bribery and money laundering harkened to their civil rights days on Wednesday as they denounced the allegations against U.S. Rep. William Jefferson. The group, including ministers and the president of the local chapter of the NAACP, alleged the 16-count corruption indictment was the work of … Continue reading Support for Jefferson?
