Continuing the series of op eds by candidates in the four local primaries, today's Virginian Pilot presented those of Carolyn Weems and Chris Stolle, Republican candidates in Virginia Beach's 83rd district. This seat is open due to the retirement of Leo Wardrup. Unlike the first in the series, there appeared to be no specific question … Continue reading Dueling op eds: Weems v Stolle

DWAT: Big Tent?
Back in January, Dannyboy over at Donkey with a Trunk posted about whether liberals in the Democratic Party are accepting of the moderates. Since that time, I've started and restarted this post, in an attempt to answer him. Today's notice that Cindy Sheehan resigned from the peace movement coupled with a series of emails that … Continue reading DWAT: Big Tent?
Memorial Day Bash roundup
Saturday turned out to be rather warm. Nevertheless, Democrats from around the area - Norfolk, Portsmouth, Chesapeake, Virginia Beach and Suffolk - braved the heat to come out in support of our candidates at my 2nd Annual Memorial Day Bash. We made sure to have plenty to drink to compensate 😉 House Democratic Caucus Chairman … Continue reading Memorial Day Bash roundup
Richardson on MTP
Painful. That's the word that came to mind as I watch Democratic presidential hopeful Bill Richardson on Meet the Press yesterday. I'm rarely up early enough on Sunday morning to catch the show so I'm not familiar with how host Tim Russert handles interviews. Others are - and apparently his skewering of Democratic candidates is … Continue reading Richardson on MTP

I expressed my concern about this debate to other League … Continue reading LWVFA responds to charges regarding Hall-Smyth debate
Ooh! Republi-cat fight

For a little background on the setting, check out this blog posting over at PilotOnline. Yes, I was entertained 🙂 I'm not sure that the voters in the 1st district were, though. If there … Continue reading Ooh! Republi-cat fight
Norfolk voting case going to supreme court
In 2005, there was a tremendous effort to register people to vote. A number of organizations, among them Project Vote and ACORN, targeted this area. Norfolk experienced a high rejection rate - 55.3% - of the voter registration applications. At the time, the surrounding cities experienced a much lower rejection rate. This led to a … Continue reading Norfolk voting case going to supreme court

Parmele, we hardly knew ye!
An independent candidate in the 82nd House District has dropped out of the race. John O. Parmele, Jr., a seven-time candidate, withdrew from the race before anyone even knew he was in. He did it because he didn't want to pay a $100 fine for filing his candidate papers late. Can't blame the guy. After … Continue reading Parmele, we hardly knew ye!
