An editorial in an early January edition of the Virginian-Pilot makes reference to the 1992 bill re-introduced by House Democratic Chairman Brian Moran (discussed here). The editorial makes the same point that Delegate Terrie Suit made in our podcast: non-partisan redistricting is only ever discussed by the party not in the majority. Thus, whoever is … Continue reading Redistricting = incumbent protection

Louise Lucas: dress for success
The Virginian-Pilot today has a fun article on State Senator Louise Lucas (D-18th) and her penchant for stunning outfits. I have to say that I can usually spot Senator Lucas from a distance: she's always dressed to the nines in colors that are eye-catching, colors I wish I had the guts to wear. Of course, … Continue reading Louise Lucas: dress for success
About blogging and bloggers
NLS has posted a list of the Alexa rankings of Virginia bloggers, for whatever it's worth. The Daily Whackjob looks at the fate of the two Edwards bloggers and raises a question: Is this a generation thing (so in twenty years most people will forgive statements on blogs), or are bloggers too edgy, too irreverent, … Continue reading About blogging and bloggers
More on Wardrup
Kudos to the Virginian-Pilot for the second good editorial in as many days. Are there some new members of the editorial staff? Today's version focuses on Leo Wardrup (R-83rd) and his invocation of legislative privilege at a traffic stop, which Wardrup denies. The editorial writer didn't buy Wardrup's version of events: To accept Wardrup’s version, … Continue reading More on Wardrup

McEachin in seminary
One of the people I had a chance to talk with Saturday at the JJ festivities was Delegate Donald McEachin (D-74th). In the course of that conversation, McEachin mentioned that he is in seminary at Virginia Union, my father's alma mater. Today, the Richmond Times Dispatch has a profile on McEachin, focusing on his pursuit … Continue reading McEachin in seminary
Energy sales tax holiday benefits no one
So says the Virginian-Pilot. In a scathing editorial in today's paper, the Pilot takes to task the energy sales tax holiday championed by Del. John Cosgrove (R-78th) (HB1678) which has sailed thru the House and Senate and now awaits the governor's signature. In short, the Chesapeake Republican has written a tax break that almost nobody … Continue reading Energy sales tax holiday benefits no one
