Reflections on the 5/2 elections

I've been thinking about 5/2 local elections and what the results mean. In Chesapeake, all incumbents on the school board kept their seats. Members of council were not so lucky, however. Three incumbents lost. In Virginia Beach, there will be two new faces on the school board and three on council. In Portsmouth, the school … Continue reading Reflections on the 5/2 elections

More on Hillary

Great piece in the Washington Post on Hillary Clinton. Hillary Clinton has a few problems if she wants to secure the 2008 Democratic presidential nomination. She is a leader who fails to lead. She does not appear "electable." But most of all, Hillary has a Bill Clinton problem. Hat tip to Corey for this.

“For Virginia Dems, a high-tech option”

The above is the title of the editorial on Harris Miller that appears in today's Virginian-Pilot. Miller obviously impressed the editorial board during his interview: Miller’s eagerness for a debate is understandable. Once the topic moves beyond Iraq, Webb labors in deep waters that Miller swims in easily. They did not give him a complete … Continue reading “For Virginia Dems, a high-tech option”

Poll: Miller or Webb

I've added a poll covering the upcoming June 13 Democratic primary. The contenders are Jim Webb and Harris Miller. The race is getting a lot of coverage in the blogsphere but not much in the MSM, even though we are just 5 weeks away from the election. The winner will challenger first-term senator George Allen. … Continue reading Poll: Miller or Webb

Shenanigans in Portsmouth

Seems there is a political action committee in Portsmouth doing some pretty bad stuff. It was the last straw in what – by many candidates’ accounts – was the nastiest behind-the-scenes campaign Portsmouth has ever seen. Every cycle it seems to get worse. But somebody please explain to me why the Pilot waited until after … Continue reading Shenanigans in Portsmouth

Should Hillary step aside?

Nina Burleigh over at the Huffington Post seems to think so. And a lot of the posters agree with her. I haven't made up my mind on this yet. On the one hand, I think Hillary would do fine as president. On the other hand, I wonder if she hasn't painted herself into a corner … Continue reading Should Hillary step aside?
