Norfolk’s legislative agenda

The City of Norfolk's Office of Intergovernmental Relations has a draft of the legislative agenda. I obtained a copy after requesting it, although it is not yet available on the website. According to the draft, Norfolk has the following items on its agenda (my comments in italics): Legislative priorities: City Charter Changes. Amendment to the … Continue reading Norfolk’s legislative agenda

The Pulpit Speaks: January 20, 1962

An article written by my father, the Rev. C. Thomas Paige, as it appeared in the Tri-State Defender on the date shown. "For I am not ashamed of the Gospel of Jesus Christ for it is the power of God unto salvation." --- Romans 1:16 A few weeks ago, one of our larger churches had … Continue reading The Pulpit Speaks: January 20, 1962

Who won the debates?

I caught the end of the Republican debate and most of the Democratic debate. On the Republican side, it seemed that Mitt Romney was ganged up on by John McCain and Mike Huckabee. On the Democratic side, it seemed that Hillary Clinton was ganged up on by Barack Obama and John Edwards. Nothing earth-shattering, and … Continue reading Who won the debates?

Things to do Saturday: football and politics

The Washington Redskins (9-7) take on the Seattle Seahawks (10-6) at 4:30pm EST on NBC. The Redskins are riding a 4-game winning streak while the Seahawks suffered an embarrassing 44-41 loss to the 4-12 Atlanta Falcons. Needless to say, I'm picking the 'Skins 😉 And then it's evening entertainment as both the Republicans and the … Continue reading Things to do Saturday: football and politics

Solid protection

I got this via email and just had to share 😉 These men are installing and setting solid steel pillars in concrete to stop vehicles from parking on the pavement outside a sports bar in downtown Norman, Oklahoma. They're cleaning up at the end of the day. How long do you think it'll be before … Continue reading Solid protection

Pilot confirms Redskins talk

Well, it only took them two weeks 😉 but the Virginian Pilot has finally gotten someone to go on record about the possible relocation of the Redskins training camp to Virginia Beach.

City manager’s husband dies

Drew Williams, the husband of Norfolk City Manager Regina Williams, has died. PilotOnline reports: Williams, 66, had been treated for more than a year for a severe colon infection. He was a native of Michigan, [city spokesman Terry] Bishirjian said. My thoughts and prayers are with Mrs. Williams and her family at this difficult time.

A ham to Kansas

Kansas beat Virginia Tech last night in the Orange Bowl 24-21, so Governor Tim Kaine will have to make good on his friendly wager with Kansas Governor Kathleen Sebelius by sending her a Virginia ham. Turnovers killed the fifth-ranked Hokies - and the two-quarterback system didn't help. The eighth-ranked Jayhawks took advantage, despite heroic efforts … Continue reading A ham to Kansas

Obligatory Iowa caucus post

I guess I have to post something about the Iowa caucus, so here it is. Truth be told, Larry Sabato said all that I have been thinking about this ridiculous caucus. The highpoints: It's just that (1) the caucuses this year are way too early; (2) the caucuses and the state are unrepresentative of the … Continue reading Obligatory Iowa caucus post
