I attended this afternoon's event for Bobby Mathieson with Tim Kaine. The hosts for this were Finance Secretary Jody Wagner and her husband, Alan. What a gorgeous afternoon at the Beach! I saw bunches of folks there that I hadn't seen for a while and it was good to catch up. Among the many in … Continue reading Report: Mathieson event with Kaine
Another busy Saturday
I started the day off bright and early this morning (early for me, that is) with the second Town Hall meeting of the week on the issues facing EOV. That event kicked off at 8:30am and when I arrived about 10 minutes after the scheduled start time, it was already underway. The room was full … Continue reading Another busy Saturday
Keep on doing what you’re doing, Bobby
Some folks have nothing better to do than to make mountains out of molehills, especially when it comes to honest mistakes made by first-time candidates. Such is the case here. Bobby Mathieson's career in law enforcement spans 30 years - he served as a Virginia Beach police officer for 26 years, nine months, to be … Continue reading Keep on doing what you’re doing, Bobby
“Live passionately” ad may be short lived
In the comments section of the PilotOnline post I linked to yesterday about the new tourism slogan, I noticed that somebody said the ad campaign was using a gang symbol in it. Seems that poster was dead on. PilotOnline has an article about it: The gesture, a heart fashioned out of both thumbs and index … Continue reading “Live passionately” ad may be short lived
NFL perspective on Vick
Watching NFL preseason football last night, I heard the interview with Commissioner Roger Goodell (video available here). The interesting thing was a point made by one of the announcers on ESPN: that the NFL is more concerned about Michael Vick's gambling on dogfights than they are about the dogfights themselves. This story seems to back … Continue reading NFL perspective on Vick
Wii used in local rehab facility
I have thoroughly enjoyed owning the Nintendo Wii, the first gaming system I've ever owned or played. Seems I'm not alone in thinking that the Wii is really more than a game system: this video on HamptonRoads.TV shows its use in the Lake Taylor Transitional Hospital, a local rehabilitation facility.
Bouchard can win
The drama of the "will he/won't he" run of 83rd House district Delegate Leo Wardup played out earlier this year, with the result being the latter. A shortened primary race between ultimate winner Chris Stolle and Carolyn Weems and the subsequent time off taken by Stolle has caused this race to kinda fly below the … Continue reading Bouchard can win
Vick-Tim T-shirt
A fellow walked into the New Belmont tonight with this T-shirt on. As it turns out, it is being produced and sold right here in Norfolk, at Sole Brother, a store located on 20th Street in Ghent. The guy wearing the shirt was Chris Vaughan, the store's owner. He says that some of the money … Continue reading Vick-Tim T-shirt
“Live passionately”
So says the Virginia Department of Tourism. "Live passionately" is part of the new slogan: " 'Virginia is for lovers' is our brand, and 'live passionately' is our call to action," she [Tamra Talmadge-Anderson, spokeswoman for the tourism unit] said. "They go hand in hand." Hmm. I don't know about this one. Your thoughts?
Norfolk Drinking Liberally tonight
It's that time of the month again. No, not that time of the month 😉 It's the third Thursday and that means it's time for the gathering of the Norfolk chapter of Drinking Liberally. No, you don't have to drink. And, honestly, you don't even have to be liberal. Join the crowd upstairs at The … Continue reading Norfolk Drinking Liberally tonight
