American Idol Results 04/18/07: FINALLY!!!!!

Thank goodness for TiVo 😉 I watched last night's show this morning. With its country theme, there were some pretty good performances. I was surprised at Phil - the guy was definitely in a zone and gave his best performance of the season. There were also some pretty bad performances. Ending up in the bottom … Continue reading American Idol Results 04/18/07: FINALLY!!!!!

Ten cents

That's the real estate tax rate cut proposed by Norfolk City Manager Regina Williams. Norfolk’s real estate tax rate of $1.27 per $100 of assessed value, among the state’s highest, would fall to $1.17. Hmm. Think the City Manager read what I wrote earlier? I’m expecting that the city manager’s budget will come in with … Continue reading Ten cents

Shad Planking

The 59th Annual Shad Planking, sponsored by the Wakefield Ruritan Club was held this afternoon. It was the first time that I have attended, since this event falls so close to the end of tax season every year. I'm told that the crowd was smaller than normal, on this chilly, dreary afternoon. The colors of … Continue reading Shad Planking

I took a break from filing extensions last night to catch Mark Warner's speech at the Norfolk Forum.  More on that later. I'm heading to the Shad Planking later today. Quickly browsing … Continue reading Out from under

Northam: $170,000!

Ralph Northam, the Democratic candidate for Senate in the 6th district, will be filing his financial reports showing a little over $170,000 raised from about 150 donors. Cash on hand will be a little over $150,000. And he didn't stop there. I understand that fundraising in April continues at a torrid pace. In the meantime, … Continue reading Northam: $170,000!

The meaning of April 15

For most people in the US, April 15 means one thing: it's the day that taxes are due. While I am quite familiar with that deadline, the date has a much different meaning for me. On that day, in 1951, my oldest brother, Milton, was born. On that day in 1981, my nephew Cory was … Continue reading The meaning of April 15
