I talk about race and racism quite often, both in this space and in my everyday life. I recall only too well the Willie Horton ads and other blatant appeals by politicians to pander to the racists among us. I can now answer the question I put forth three months ago: yes, George Allen is … Continue reading Allen: open mouth, insert foot
Monday morning quarterback
My favorite sport is football. Now, obviously, I never played the game, but I became enamored with it in the early 1980s. TV coverage at that time was mostly the Redskins, so I became a Redskins fan. Over the years, I've developed into more of a football fan than a Redskins fan, especially after Dan … Continue reading Monday morning quarterback
ODU Maglev project moving forward
The much maligned ODU maglev project has made some strides. Today's Pilot indicates that they have achieved stable levitation with a small scale sled. They hope they will be able to do the same with the larger train. I don't know if they will ever get this thing to work as it was envisioned. At … Continue reading ODU Maglev project moving forward
The Pulpit Speaks: March 10, 1956
An article written by my father, the Rev. C. Thomas Paige, as it appeared in the Tri-State Defender on the date shown. People are prone to rationalize! Time and time after something has happened a commentator always comes along with the correct solution to the problem. Inevitably, he starts off like this: "You know, if … Continue reading The Pulpit Speaks: March 10, 1956

Rasmussen's latest poll is out and it shows Independent candidate Joe Lieberman ahead of Democratic nominee Ned Lamont by 5% - 46% to 41%. The Republican candidate is at 6%. 500 likely voters were polled by telephone on August 9-10.

Probably the biggest bust in Redskin history, former quarterback Heath Shuler is running for Congress in North Carolina's 11th District. His opponent is Republican Charles Taylor. Shuler is mounting a heck of a campaign: his website claims he is up by 4 points. And he has raised some serious coin - over $1 million. Shuler … Continue reading Former Redskin Heath Shuler running for Congress

GEICO and Vote NO
I've just finished another bill paying session. One of the bills I had to pay was my car insurance, which has been with GEICO for about 26 years. I switched to GEICO around 1980, when I first went to work for the IRS. My partner was with another company when we first met and I … Continue reading GEICO and Vote NO
Draft Gore
Some people won't take no for an answer 😉 Mary Beth Williams won't. From the Huffington Post: How serious is she? In her own words: I've packed up my family, including four children, ages 4 - 9, two with autism, put all my belongings into storage (at a cost of over $350/month), have worked 60 … Continue reading Draft Gore
