David Ashe out of 2nd Congressional Race

David Ashe, the former Marine who took on Thelma Drake in the 2005 2nd Congressional District race, has decided to drop out and join the Kaine administration. Ashe is the second Democratic challenger to leave the race. Eastern Shore businessman Troy Farlow dropped out earlier. That leaves Virginia Beach Commissioner of the Revenue Phil Kellum as the only Democrat in the race. There is some speculation that Virginia Beach Sheriff Paul Lanteigne may challenge first-termer Drake for the Republican nomination. The deadline for filing for a party primary is April 14. The 2nd Congressional District covers Virginia Beach and parts of Norfolk and Hampton.
