Rerras to join Kaine administration?

Nick RerrasNLS has broken the story that I’ve been hearing for a few days now from different sources. Seems that my own state senator, Nick Rerras, will be joining the Kaine administration, leaving his seat open for a special election. Interestingly enough, I tried to confirm this story with a delegate and a senator last week but neither of them had heard it.

At one point, a challenger for Rerras’ seat had declared (at the NCDC meeting last month, no less) that he was going to run. Yesterday I was told that this candidate has decided not to run.

LLewis.jpeLike NLS, I have heard that Lynwood Lewis, whose district currently emcompasses the Eastern Shore and a small part of Norfolk, is the likely candidate to run for this seat. Of course, you can’t count PaulaPaula-Miller.gif Miller out of this since she, too, lives in the 6th.

When I first heard this, Michael Ball’s name came to mind immediately. Ball, if you recall, has lost twice to Miller for the 87th House District seat. But there may be a Republican on the Eastern Shore better suited for this.

Lewis is a natural choice since so much of the 6th is on the Eastern Shore. That’s where his last challenger (in 2003), Andy Protogyrou, lost.

The next regularly scheduled election is 2007.

UPDATE: Bearing Drift has a post up on this as well. He’s hearing that it won’t be Michael Ball; instead, it will be Pamela Brown.

  1. Something tells me that the President of the Norfolk Republicans Women’s Club doesn’t have much of a shot against either Del. Miller or Del. Lewis.

  2. I think you’re right. Unless she’s got a pile of money to spend on creating name ID in a short time. That’s why I thought of Ball.

  3. This is the perfect move by Kaine. He picks a district that Democrats NEED to win, but that would be tough to win in the general. We have 2 Democratic delegates below to move up. Lewis is definitely to better choice. Miller’s seat would be tougher to hold I think. Troy Farlow could run for Lewis’ seat should he win.

  4. NGB, I am sorry, Troy Farlow is not experienced enough to pull off an election win. The people of the ES, except for a small percentage, even know who he is. Businessman or Consultant?, ask Mr. Farlow what he has done to qualify him as an “ES” Businessman or Consultant. Does he actually have a job? What has he done to represent the ES as for as community involvement or leadership? You can’t win alone by being Lynwood Lewis’s former aide. I don’t care if you are a Dem or Rep, one has to be able to prove that they have some work experience and volunteer/leadership experience in a district that they are claiming to want to represent? If things happen like they are rumored to with regards to Rerras, Mr. Farlow will run as a “Former US Congressional Candidate”. Come On! Lets get real here.
