Webb misses filing deadline?

It seems that Democratic senate candidate Jim Webb’s campaign missed the filing deadline. According to this letter, dated June 2, the campaign did not make the June 1 filing deadline. The letter appears to be proforma, even going so far as to say:

If you have filed the report timely by certified or registered mail, please notify us immediately, in writing, of the certified or registered number and the date that the report was sent.

If the Webb campaign didn’t file on time, how did all the media outlets (including this one) get copies of the report in time to write about them the next day? According to an anonymous source over at NLS:

Jim Webb’s FEC report was filed on time, however, because of Antrax screening in the Senate building, it did not reach the appropriate person on the same day. There is no fine for this.

I think the writer meant Anthrax, but I get the point.

Rookie campaigns make mistakes. Trust me, it happens to the best of us. So I’m willing to cut Webb a bit of slack here if indeed the report didn’t get to the right person.

I agree, unless there is a pattern. Three days earlier, the FEC wrote the Webb campaign this:

The PDF is here (hopefully itwill work):

One mistake, ok. Two mistakes? Hmm.

I am on an email chain up here in NoVA, and people are speculating whether or not the Webb campaign is intentionally delaying these reports until the very last minute (presuming there are factual errors in what the campaign reported to the media). There are a couple of Dem leaders in NoVA that are really worried about this issue.

    Time will tell.

There are a couple of Dem leaders in NOVA who think Miller should take a plane trip to Alaska and never come back.
