I’m not happy with the transportation bill. The Governor’s amendments make it a bit more palatable, but there are still some serious problems. The creation of the regional authorities gives me a bit of heartburn, especially since the voters rejected the idea. As others have said, the plan does not address congestion problems. And the fact that the plan does not raise enough money for the projects deemed necessary in Hampton Roads means that those projects will take a much longer time to be built.
Is this the beginning of serious transportation reform, with more to come, or simply an election year ploy? My guess is the latter, my hope is the former. In either event, passage of the bill is almost assured.
The regional authority would be the perfect mechanism for building the regional light rail network.
Ha Ha – you’re kidding, right? Va Beach would never go along with that!
