Heretick v Bouchard in the 13th

Flying pretty much under the radar has been the race for the Democratic nomination in the 13th Senate district. Heck, even the State Board of Elections doesn’t realize that there are two guys with the last name of Bouchard who are candidates! As of this writing, David Bouchard is not listed as a candidate and, in fact, his report for 4/1-5/30 is listed under Joe Bouchard, who is the House Democratic candidate in the 83rd. (I doubt David would be the person authorizing expenditures for Joe’s campaign.)

David Bouchard and Steve HeretickToday’s Virginian-Pilot has an article on both candidates, probably more exposure for David Bouchard than he has received throughout this campaign. As I said last week, David Bouchard has virtually no chance at winning this race but he is a very nice guy with a big heart. He calls himself a humanitarian.

I’m a bit surprised that the two candidates took some shots at each other in the article because I saw none of that last week. Perhaps the nature of the medium (the printed word) required it. Oh well. Seeing the two in person, though, the contrast between them is stark: Heretick is sharp, focused and well-versed in government, while David Bouchard is more nebulous.

The op ed pieces that appeared in the Pilot a couple of weeks ago can be found in this post.

Governor Tim Kaine, who pretty much stays out of primaries, threw his support behind Heretick a few weeks ago. As much as I like David Bouchard, I have to agree with the governor: Steve Heretick should be the nominee.

EDIT: 10:55pm – Joe Bouchard’s report is properly showing up. David is still not listed as a candidate.
