First of all, thanks to LG Bill Bolling for hosting this 2nd annual Bloggers’ Day. And to the wimp*, Randy Marcus, for arranging everything, even though you couldn’t be there 😉
The day provided an opportunity for me to go to the General Assembly one more time before tax season makes it impossible. My apologies to the other bloggers who were there. I really didn’t spend as much time with them this year as I did last year, because I used all of the free time we had to talk to legislators. It was also the League of Women Voters Lobby Day. My intention had been to get there in time to attend the Women’s Roundtable but 8:30am is a little early for me. As it was, I got there around 9, visited some legislators and sat in on part of a subcommittee meeting that was hearing Deeds’ SB35 and Herring’s SB292 on verifiable voting before heading over to the LG’s office.
The afternoon session, which I live blogged as best I could, was interesting. I had the distinct impression, though, that the speakers were holding back a bit, mainly because of the presence of Democrats in the room. I guess I can understand that; after all, it’s kinda like letting a fox into the hen house. One of the reasons I did not join them for dinner was because I wanted them to have the opportunity to discuss Republican stuff without me there. (The other reason was that I was plain tired, and wanted to get back home.)
After our session, I visited with some more legislators, one of them being Tim Hugo. The look on his face when I asked him about a run for Tom Davis’ seat was priceless 😉 I understand he joined the group for dinner, by which time he had an easier answer for them. (See, guys? I prepped him for you!)
All in all, a good day. I’m not even going to try to list all of the blogs that were there. Noticeably absent were some people that I had hoped to see and who I had a great time hanging out with last year. In the days leading up to the event, something happened between the various factions on the Republican side. I’m not about to rehash it all here, because I don’t have all of the facts, and in the end, it really doesn’t matter. For the sake of this tradition started by Bolling, though, I hope they can work it out.
*Randy Marcus, the LG’s chief of staff, had a cold and was unable to join us. LG Bolling, himself fighting a cold, continuously referred to Randy as a wimp.
Did Kilo get drunk and punch anybody?
It was good meeting you. You would have liked the dinner. No “politics” were discussed, that I could hear.
And no, Kilo was a gentleman. And his party, afterwards, was great.
Vivian, I’m sorry that you weren’t with us for dinner; it would have been nice to have you there.
Vivian, I was so sorry I couldn’t be there; I was very much hoping to introduce the Munchkin to you and let her see a lady of class and intelligence. Ah, well, maybe next year!
Thank you so much for the blogging/updating you did; it made me feel a little like I was there. I’m very glad you had a productive time.
Best blessings – and see you soon, God willing!
