Norfolk informal meetings recorded

The fine folks at AltDaily have decided to record and post videos of the informal meetings of the Norfolk City Council. Most of the work gets done in these sessions, but so far, council has refused to broadcast them. I hope the headline from The Virginian-Pilot story is true – that AltDaily will be streaming the sessions – as opposed to recording them for later viewing. That would be awesome and a tremendous public service.

The videos from Tuesday’s session are below the fold.

  1. I don’t think they will be streaming them because they don’t have the right equipment, but perhaps you could enlighten them (or me) to what you use for all your streaming videos?

Jesse is totally on point with this one.

    1. It’s actually pretty easy. UStream.tv is a free streaming service. (They even have a free production program that works quite well.) All you need is an internet connection, a computer and a camera. (My camera didn’t have a direct connection to my computer so I had to buy a device that provided that functionality, but most cameras have it.)

      1. Wow, I thought you needed some kind of camera that had the right compression settings to stream it online, but I guess not. Hopefully firewire is acceptable as connection to the computer and HD video isn’t too much to handle.

I’m messing with it right right now so I can stream the school board work sessions. Some fireworks were flying at the one last night and all I have is the audio.

Thanks! I think Jesse has a direct to hardrive camera, so it should be much easier for him.
