Wednesday night saw the eleven contestants take on the music of Elton John. There were some really awesome performances – Casey actually sang “Your Song” better than EJ himself – and there were some that were not so awesome – Paul comes to mind, although his suit was pretty wild. My bottom three were the first three performers: Scotty, Naima and Paul. Because the judges exercised their once-per-season save last week, two contestants faced elimination tonight,
The results show was a little different than usual. The contestants were put into groups and the results for each group announced after they performed.
First up was Lauren & Scotty. After singing, they were both declared safe. I’m guessing Scott has a lot of fans out there who like him because he has a nice country voice, which he does. It’s just that he didn’t do a very good job last night.
Jacob and Naima rocked it in their duet. But that didn’t stop Naima from being the first identified as being in the bottom three.
Former Idol winner Fantasia debuted her new song, “Collard Greens and Cornbread.” It was pretty good, actually.
Haley, Thia and Pia formed the next group. Once again, Thia was in the bottom three. I disagree with this – and wish the judges would stop picking on her, which I think influences some of the voters. The kid has an awesome voice.
Four of the guys have formed a band – Paul, James, Stefano and Casey – and they performed together on the show. Rounding out the bottom three was Paul.
So I got two of the three right.
After a performance by will.i.am and Jaime Foxx, the person safe was – you guessed it – Paul. Going home were Thia and Naima.
It’s a real shame that Paul made it through. Even though I’m a fan of both of the women eliminated, neither of them deserved it, at least not over Paul.
UPDATE: Here’s the video of Casey
Vodpod videos no longer available.
I can’t believe you would say ANYONE could sing “Your Song” better than Sir Elton himself….blasphemy 😉
I put the video up just for you. See for yourself 😉
Just watched it…it was good but I just loved Elton’s version, this is a great rendition.
Casey’s voice reminds me of someone- not sure if it is Don Henley or maybe a country artist…I can’t put my finger on it.
Casey is one heck of a musician. His may not be the best voice, but his phrasing is reminiscent of some of the old jazz singers, and something sorely lacking among the youngsters today, who, among other things, breathe at the most inopportune times.
Ok, watched it again and to me it’s like Cat Stevens mixed with Garth Brooks & Luther Vandross….
Like I said, unique.
ONCE AGAIN lol, Haley is safe. there’s no way they think this chick was better then Karen. lol i promise Vivian, i’ll stop watching starting this week. u won’t see me voice my opinion next week.
but at least Naima is finally gone. i’m sad they got rid of Thia though. but once again, somebody i think is better then that little sugary Haley. also i agree what u say about the judges. but i have a different beef. i’m sick of there passive attitudes. this is where Simon had his strong points. I even feel Randy actually started to “man up” when he was around Simon. now he’s back to “yo dog” mode and isn’t hard enough. he’s gotta be the leader or example to the other 2. Even thought Steve is so freakin high i don’t think he’d know the difference.
😆 Keep watching and keep commenting.
I liked Naima, but she wasn’t going to win. Thia should come back next year, more mature and with thicker skin, because she already has the voice.
Agree on the judges – they aren’t willing to say anything beyond “boring” or “pitchy.”
vivian haley really wrecked her song tuesday i thought and they gave her flying colors – it should have been Naimi, haley, and Paul with thia getting through – those guys though – and Casey can sing period.
