VEA gubernatorial forum

I attended the VEA forum in Hampton last night. The event was the first of the season to feature all four candidates for governor, although not at the same time. Republican candidate Bob McDonnell appeared first and alone, while the three Democratic candidates - Creigh Deeds, Terry McAuliffe and Brian Moran - appeared together. Additional … Continue reading VEA gubernatorial forum

American Idol results 04/22/09: two go home

Disco week, thankfully, came to an end Wednesday night with two people being voted off American Idol. The show opened with a dance number, choreographed by judge Paula Abdul, featuring the seven remaining contestants. The dancing was OK, the lip synching less so. I would have preferred a real singing number over the dancing - … Continue reading American Idol results 04/22/09: two go home

Norfolk Forum: Joe Scarborough & Mika Brzezinski

I attended the Norfolk Forum last night to hear the last of this season's speakers, Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski, co-hosts of of the MSNBC show Morning Joe. I don't have much to add to the comments by David Campbell here. I've never seen the show but I certainly didn't expect the schtick that substituted … Continue reading Norfolk Forum: Joe Scarborough & Mika Brzezinski

American Idol 04/21/09: Disco

The theme of Tuesday night's show was disco, although little real disco was on display. In fact, I suspect the two people whose performances were closest to disco - Lil and Matt - are going home Wednesday. Despite her having lost her voice, I dont think that was Lil's problem last night. I think her … Continue reading American Idol 04/21/09: Disco

Virginia Partisans recommends Moran

In a press release late yesterday, the Virginia Partisans Gay and Lesbian Democratic Club "recommends" Brian Moran for Governor. The organization, which dates back to 1990, generally does not endorse in primary elections. The entire press release is below the fold. UPDATE: I just received Moran's statement on the Partisans support. It, too, is below … Continue reading Virginia Partisans recommends Moran

Biking in Norfolk a crime?

Apparently. But only if you live in low-income neighborhoods. Police records show dozens of bike seizures in the past three years from the city's lowest-income neighborhoods, including Park Place, Huntersville, Barraud Park and public housing. Those same records show police steer clear of the city's more affluent areas like Ghent, Larchmont/Edgewater and Lambert's Point. No … Continue reading Biking in Norfolk a crime?

Hosted by The Farm Team and moderated by Andrea Mitchell of MSNBC, the crowd of 400+ was treated to 90 minutes of political posturing as the candidates presented their stances on a … Continue reading Debate wrapup
