The Pulpit Speaks: April 16, 1960

An article written by my father, the Rev. C. Thomas Paige, as it appeared in the Tri-State Defender on the date shown. Ye seek Jesus ... He is not here! -- Matthew 28:5-6 Today our minds automatically turn to the Easter season. No one thinks of this season without thinking of Jesus coming forth from … Continue reading The Pulpit Speaks: April 16, 1960

BNN “Influence Index”

Much of the blogsphere is in a tizzy over the release yesterday by BlogNetNews of its "Influence Index." I think I've been pretty clear about what I think of so-called "blog rankings." Heck, since changing my url in January, I hadn't even gotten around to registering it with Google until this morning, the result being … Continue reading BNN “Influence Index”

BREAKING: Rummells out of race in 83rd

Just got word that Robert Rummells, who just yesterday announced his candidacy for the seat "being vacated by retiring Del. Leo Wardrup," is dropping out of the race. The reason cited is that his mother has cancer. My best wishes to his mother for a speedy recovery. I guess we are still waiting on Leo. … Continue reading BREAKING: Rummells out of race in 83rd

Leo watch: will he or won’t he?

My guess is that Wardrup may wait until the last minute to announce his retirement. The filing deadline for candidates is quickly approaching. (5pm next Friday, April 13). My guess … Continue reading Leo watch: will he or won’t he?

BREAKING: Weems files in the 83rd

It seems that poster Bullwinkle was right. I'm told that Carolyn Weems, Virginia Beach School Board member, has filed to run in the 83rd. I guess Leo Wardrup's retirement announcement will be forthcoming. In the May 2006 election, Weems was the top vote getter among those running at large, garnering more than 41% of the … Continue reading BREAKING: Weems files in the 83rd

Veto session wrapup

Leading up to yesterday's veto session, I wrote about my positions on the big three issues that the General Assembly would have to tackle: the smoking ban, the expansion of the death penalty, and the transportation bill. The passage of the transportation bill, as amended by Governor Tim Kaine, was virtually assured going into the … Continue reading Veto session wrapup

American Idol Results 04/04/07

I have to say that the best thing I heard all evening was when Ryan Seacrest said that Tony Bennett was not going to be singing πŸ™‚ Hey, I like standards as much as the next gal, but a Tony Bennett fan, I'm not. But then again, I can honestly say that I'd rather hear … Continue reading American Idol Results 04/04/07
