ODU offers a model for achievement

My latest column with the above title appeared in Wednesday's Virginian-Pilot. Besides the reform commission, Governor Bob McDonnell established, via Executive Order #9, the Commission on Higher Education Reform, Innovation and Investment.  He named the members to the committee in May. Information on the commission's meetings including the presentations made at prior meetings can be … Continue reading ODU offers a model for achievement

Portsmouth mayor’s race down to 6

A second candidate in the race for Portsmouth mayor has dropped out. Mark Geduldig-Yatrofsky announced his withdrawal Tuesday. About 10 days ago, Terry Hancock Sr. did the same.  Both men cited the inability to win as being a reason for dropping out. Hancock threw his support behind Lee Cherry, while Geduldig-Yatrofsky is supporting Kenny Wright. … Continue reading Portsmouth mayor’s race down to 6

I think that's a bold move, even though they are not allowing the panel to recommend changes to certain areas. The panel members said they want to make Portsmouth's charter, which numbers … Continue reading Portsmouth updating charter

I've been bemoaning the lack of polling in the 2nd Congressional District for a while. There have been reports that both incumbent Glenn Nye and challenger Scott Rigell have had polls in the field but no information has been forthcoming. (Kenny Golden does not have the resources for polling.) I suspect this is for two … Continue reading Rigell 45%, Nye 40%, Golden 7%

Give the governor his props

I've known Gov. McDonnell for a number of years, and while we don't agree on much politically, I like him as a person. It much easier to like somebody when they do good things - and Gov. McDonnell has done a couple of things worthy of recognition. First, Governor Bob McDonnell acknowledged his fumble last … Continue reading Give the governor his props
