Um, step away from the computer. "She didn't think anybody would see it," he said. She said she believed "it was a private communication between her and Busby, or so she thought." Really?

ICYMI: What Tuesday’s primary showed us
My latest op-ed, title above, appeared in The Virginian-Pilot Thursday. (Those who subscribe to VPAP's VaNews also got a chance to read it yesterday. So good to be back in!) Although the statewide results were important, it was the Norfolk results that I watched the closest, for a couple of reasons. Of course, I wanted … Continue reading ICYMI: What Tuesday’s primary showed us
Norfolk: appointed school board’s terms too short
I've long supported an elected school board here in Norfolk. Unfortunately, I don't see it happening any time soon, unless the PTB decide they want it. Norfolk residents have so many things on our plates that this simply isn't a priority. An article in today's paper raises an important point: the terms of the school board … Continue reading Norfolk: appointed school board’s terms too short

ICYMI: A long battle for voting rights
My latest op-ed, title above, appeared in The Virginian-Pilot Thursday. It is impossible to talk about voting rights in the modern era without mentioning the efforts of the late Norfolk senator, Yvonne Miller. I spent some time looking back through legislation to discover when the Senator first proposed it. I was only able to go … Continue reading ICYMI: A long battle for voting rights
Norfolk public hearing tonight
Another public hearing is scheduled for tonight (6pm, Granby HS) for Norfolk residents. This hearing will cover the additional two-cent increase in the real estate tax rate. Combined, Norfolk's rate will rise by four cents, to $1.15 per $100 of assessed value. I plan to attend, if for no other reason than to hear what … Continue reading Norfolk public hearing tonight
Norfolk heading for a 4-cent increase in real estate tax rate
According to The Virginian-Pilot's Jill Nolan, Norfolk Mayor Paul Fraim has the five votes necessary for an 4-cent increase in the real estate tax rate. I guess we can't complain - Hampton is looking at as much as a 23-cent increase. I'm not completely sold on the need for the additional two cents, although I … Continue reading Norfolk heading for a 4-cent increase in real estate tax rate
