The first game in NCAA history to pit two teams from the same city against each other occurred in Norfolk Saturday. Norfolk State University and Old Dominion University met at Foreman Field on the campus of ODU. The game was sold out, with 19,818 fans of both teams there to cheer them on. The rest … Continue reading Way to go ODU!

Monday morning quarterback: Redskins lose another
I didn't event waste my time putting this into the "fun stuff" category because there was nothing fun about watching the Washington Redskins lose another game yesterday. Unlike Tom Robinson, I gave up on this year's team long ago. Nothing will change until the team is sold. The players and coaches can only do so … Continue reading Monday morning quarterback: Redskins lose another
ODU vs NSU in football playoffs
Two Norfolk universities - Old Dominion and Norfolk State - will face off Saturday in a first-round game of the Football Championship Subdivision playoffs. The game will kickoff at 1:30pm at Foreman Field, on the campus of ODU. I wish I could say that the two teams were cross-city rivals but they aren't. This will … Continue reading ODU vs NSU in football playoffs
Don’t go breaking my heart
It happened, anyway. Last night, the Washington Redskins lost to the hated Dallas Cowboys. Hey Matt - guess you wish you had taken me up on my bet! I shouldn't have expected anything else. After all, it seems the 'Skins always find a way to lose to this particular NFC East rival. Still, I was … Continue reading Don’t go breaking my heart
Monday morning quarterback (on a Tuesday)
How about those 'Skins? Two and oh, baby! We want the Cowboys! Once again, I didn't get a chance to see the whole game. But I'll take the win. About the only thing that would have made it sweeter is if the "Boys had lost. But that's OK - I think we'll whup them next … Continue reading Monday morning quarterback (on a Tuesday)
Monday morning quarterback: 1-0, baby!
Been a while since I wrote one of these 😉 The Washington Redskins are 1-0 after Sunday's win over division rival NY Giants. I didn't get to see much of the game - just the last 9 or so minutes - but that didn't matter. It was a win. Of course I'm not getting too … Continue reading Monday morning quarterback: 1-0, baby!
Quick links 07/27/11: good news edition
A few items of interest from around the 'net but with all the bad news coming out of Washington, I figured some good news was in order. Colleges, Norfolk Southern paying lump sums for HRT rides. Free rides 🙂 As I'm officially a member of the ODU faculty as of this past Monday, I'm looking … Continue reading Quick links 07/27/11: good news edition
Virginia Destroyers, UFL season delayed
The UFL announced yesterday that it would delay the start of its season until mid-September. This, of course, affects Hampton Roads own franchise, the Virginia Destroyers. >" /> I happened to have been at a retreat at the Chesapeake hotel that was the Destroyers' team hotel a couple of weeks ago. Running into Marty Schottenheimer, … Continue reading Virginia Destroyers, UFL season delayed
ODU wins CAA tournament
Congratulations to my alma mater, Old Dominion University. The team won the Colonial Athletic Association tournament tonight, defeating Virginia Commonwealth. The CAA has an automatic bid to the NCAA tournament and with this win, ODU is in! The game got close at the end. If my Twitter feed is any indication, Monarch fans across the … Continue reading ODU wins CAA tournament
Monday this and that
Been one of those days 😦 Time for a few links. Seems the General Assembly managed to pass a budget yesterday. The vote was, amazingly enough, unanimous. I'm not so sure what to think of that. I'd like to think it means that the negotiators actually compromised to do the best they could by the … Continue reading Monday this and that
