If you missed this morning's Virginian Pilot, then you missed an entertaining column by editorial writer Don Luzzatto. Somewhow, a fundraising letter sent out by RPV chair Jeff Frederick ended up in his mailbox. And Luzzatto didn't like what he read: Picking on Jeff Frederick, the 14-year-old head of the RPV, is - I know … Continue reading Luzzatto picks on RPV chair
YWCA honors Sen. Yvonne Miller
I attended the 97th Annual Meeting of the YWCA of South Hampton Roads Wednesday evening. This was a time to reflect on the successes of the past year and to honor those for their service to the organization and to the greater community. The highest honor bestowed is called the Mary Helen Thomas Racial Justice … Continue reading YWCA honors Sen. Yvonne Miller
A question about ads
If you see ads on my blog, rest assured that I didn't place them there. The company that hosts this blog, Automattic, does occasionally post ads. Because I never visit my blog when I'm not logged in, I never see them. (And, I'm told that if you use Firefox, you don't see them, either.) That's … Continue reading A question about ads
Not using Twitter? Consider it ;)
I started using Twitter just before the convention. Since returning from Denver, I've been updating sporadically but I've slowly been increasing the number of people/organizations I'm following. Deciding who to follow has been an interesting exercise. Basically what I've been doing is looking at who's following me and checking out who they are following. You … Continue reading Not using Twitter? Consider it 😉
Pilot doesn’t like McAuliffe
The Virginian Pilot's editorial board weighed in on a possible gubernatorial run by former DNC chair Terry McAuliffe. The headline pretty much sums up the board's feelings: Change we need isn't Terry McAuliffe The editorial says McAuliffe isn't qualified to be governor and suggests he "reconsider" running for governor of New York or Florida. He'd … Continue reading Pilot doesn’t like McAuliffe

Consider this: • Worker productivity has been steadily climbing in Virginia since 1999, and the state continues to outperform the nation on this measure. • In 2006, each worker in … Continue reading Virginians working harder for less
Get your anti-Palin groove on
There is a wealth of information out there about VP candidate Sarah Palin. But the best source I've found is a blog called Mudflats. The writer lives in Alaska and has been covering politics from there since well before Palin was chosen. Being close to the action, the blog gives an interesting, local perspective on … Continue reading Get your anti-Palin groove on
Warner picks up more endorsements
Former governor Mark Warner picked up some more endorsements today, this time from various sheriffs across the Old Dominion. The endorsements came as the Virginia Sheriff's Association held their conference today in Roanoke. The association itself does not endorse candidates. Warner has held a commanding lead in the polls over his Republican rival, Jim Gilmore. … Continue reading Warner picks up more endorsements
Looking for non-smoking restaurants?
Take a look at the Virginia Department of Health. The department is now including the smoking status of restaurants in the information reported on health inspections. And they have statistics on the percentage of non-smoking restaraunts by locality. For example, Norfolk has 64% while Petersburg has only 4%. Wow. Must be a lot of smokers … Continue reading Looking for non-smoking restaurants?
