Scott worker scores on Jeopardy

Christian Haines, who works for 3rd district Congressman Bobby Scott, is a contestant on Jeopardy. Thru last night, he had won a total of $105,000. His fifth appearance will be on tonight’s show, which airs on WVEC channel 13 at 7:30pm.

Wonder if he’s going to contribute some of that loot to his boss’ campaign fund? πŸ˜†

  1. Jeopardy! seems to have a place for Virginia Democrats. Jay DeBoer, the former delegate from Petersburg, was a two day winner many years ago, and Claire Guthrie Gastanaga was a contestant once. Christian seems to be raising the bar, though. Best of luck to him!

  2. Scott’s campaign for what? Possibly running for John Warner’s seat for Senator!?!? πŸ˜€

Jack, speaking of taxes, I vote that Republicans not be allowed to benefit from the transportation fix in NOVA that will be paid for by that BUDGET SURPLUS that Republicans love to hate.

  3. Naw. I asked Rep. Scott about running for senate and he said no. But remember, it’s never too early to start raising money for his 2008 campaign for Congress. Who knows? Maybe Winsome Sears will challenge him again. Last time I saw her, she was acting like she wanted to.

  4. Actually, I like the Virginia tax system. It is much flatter than the federal system. I also much prefer a car tax to a local income tax — I can drive a clunker and avoid the car tax!

  5. So what you’re saying, Jack, is that you want the rest of us to pay more than our share so that you can pay less.

This from a guy who admits he isn’t out of the 15% bracket.

I guess if you were in the 35% bracket I could understand your obsession with lower taxes, but in this case….

  6. “But remember, it’s never too early to start raising money for his 2008 campaign for Congress.”

I know, I didn’t mean that, I just meant that he always wins by such an overwhelming margin…:D

“Maybe Winsome Sears will challenge him again.”

UGH! Don’t even mention such a thing. That woman is craaazy.

  7. Vivian, so because I have less money, I shouldn’t be concerned about lower taxes? That makes no sense at all. Being in a lower tax bracket, I have to find savings where I can. Buy buying used cars, I save both on the cost of the car, and on the taxes. Should I buy a more expensive car so that I can pay my “fair share” of tax?

BTW, the Bush tax cuts, particularly the increased Child Tax Credit, saved me a lot of money.

  8. Terry – yes, she talked like she wants to run again. Scary, huh?

Jack – I said obsession, not concern. There is a difference. You bring up taxes too often for it to be a just a concern.

  9. I have been watching him and saw Joe Flannigan’s story on him on WVEC. He is doing well, and unlike 90% of those that do well on that show, he seems pretty cool.

Too often the winners are smart but are uber-geeks who have no social skills. He is bringing hippness back to the show.

Of course I wish he was a Republican but it is VERY cool to see a local guy do well.

Hmmm, Vivian, maybe you can use your connections and get him for a Pod Cast for us!

  10. Vivian — Call it an obsession if you like. However, since there is very little the government can do more efficiently than private industry can, taxes feed that inefficiency and detract from the economy of our country. I think that’s reason enough to be obsessed.

  11. With all the correct answers to some of the more arcane questions, Christian failed to answer a lay up final jeopardy question!!!!!

I guess if he was a right winger, he would have been obsessed by the Warren Court and bitching about all those damn civil liberties and protections from the state that came from it, and would have known the correct answer.

Bobby serves on the Judiciary Committee to boot!

Congrats to Christian and his nice little nest egg. I know him and he is a wonderful young man.
