My latest op-ed appeared in The Virginian-Pilot Wednesday. The Republican primary for U.S. Senate is barely registering with voters outside of those who already follow politics closely. That makes for a pretty steep hill for anyone other than George Allen to climb. Jamie Radtke has begun airing radio ads, which may garner her a few more points in the final tally, but it’s a long way to go. A recent Washington Post Poll has her at 5%, while Allen has 62%.
Not enough has been written about this primary, in my opinion, which is a shame because one of these candidates could wind up being our next U.S. Senator. There’s a whole lot of time between now and November and anything could happen. I hope we get some more articles over the next three weeks so that voters will be engaged enough to show up on June 12.
My column appears in The Virginian-Pilot on Wednesdays (unless something comes up, in which case it’s Thursdays).
